Inmate Mental Health Services

Why is This Important?

Providing effective mental health services to the individuals experiencing incarceration promotes safety for staff and those that are incarcerated, reduces crises, and improves overall facility operations. Tracking this measure ensures the County is meeting essential care needs while promoting better long-term outcomes to include re-entry preparation.

What Does It Mean?

During Q1 of 2026, the Arapahoe County Detention Facility continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering comprehensive mental health services to a high-acuity inmate-patient population. With a fully staffed Mental Health team in place, services remained stable and consistent throughout the quarter, supporting ongoing clinical needs and operational efficiency. The team averaged 4,793 total mental health interactions per month during the quarter. This volume reflects continued demand for services and highlights the team’s ability to effectively respond to the needs of the inmate-patient population. With access to psychiatric services, providers continued to support medication management and individualized treatment planning. Additional service delivery methods, including tele-psychiatry and virtual programming, continue to enhance access and flexibility in care, contributing to ongoing patient engagement. Collaboration with community partners, the Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health, and the court system remains a key component of our efforts, supporting continuity of care and improved outcomes both during incarceration and upon reentry. These partnerships play an important role in addressing system-wide needs, including reducing recidivism and ensuring appropriate follow-up care. Mental health services remain a top priority at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility. The team will continue to evaluate best practices, monitor trends, and identify opportunities to further enhance the delivery of care to this high-risk population.
