Tax Exemption Applications

Why is This Important?

This exemption helps reduce the property tax burden for older adults and disabled veterans living on fixed incomes, allowing them to remain in their homes and communities. Tracking approved applications ensures the County is effectively delivering this voter-approved benefit to eligible seniors.

What Does It Mean?

The number of senior tax exemption applications approved in 2025 was 2,713. This is an increase from 2024 when 2,647 senior tax exemption applications were approved. Additionally, 338 disabled veteran exemption applications were approved in 2025 compared to 305 in 2024.

Definition

The State of Colorado offers property tax exemptions to qualifying seniors and disabled veterans who will see 50 percent of the first $200,000 of actual value of their primary residence exempted from property tax. This measure tracks the number of applications approved for this exemption.
