Providing effective mental health services to the individuals experiencing incarceration promotes safety for staff and those that are incarcerated, reduces crises, and improves overall facility operations. Tracking this measure ensures the County is meeting essential care needs while promoting better long-term outcomes to include re-entry preparation.

What Does It Mean?

During Q2 of 2026, the Arapahoe County Detention Facility continued to demonstrate its commitment to providing comprehensive mental health services to a high-acuity inmate-patient population. With a fully staffed Mental Health team, services remained stable and responsive throughout the quarter, allowing the team to effectively meet the growing clinical needs of those in our care. The team averaged 5,215 total mental health interactions per month during the quarter, representing an increase from Q1 and reflecting both the continued demand for services and the team's ability to provide timely, consistent care. Access to psychiatric services, including medication management continued to expand access and enhance patient engagement. Collaboration with community partners, the Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health, the 18th Judicial District, and the court system remains a cornerstone of our approach to continuity of care and improved patient outcomes. During Q2, the Detention Facility's ongoing cooperation and participation in the 18th Judicial District's Competency Enhancement Program was recognized through an invitation to participate on a question-and-answer panel at the 2026 Behavioral Health and Competency Convening in July. This opportunity reflects the strength of our collaborative partnerships and our shared commitment to advancing best practices in competency restoration and behavioral health services. Mental health services remain a top priority at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility. The team will continue to evaluate emerging best practices, monitor service trends, and identify opportunities to further enhance the delivery of care to this high-risk population while strengthening partnerships that support successful outcomes during incarceration and upon reentry into the community.
