Physical Health Contributing Measures
These measures reflect data as of Q4-22.
Adults who died due to falling per 100,000 persons.
18.32 deaths per 100,000 in 2020.
The goal for the fall death rate is to remain below the target – exceeding the target would signify more deaths from falling. Therefore, exceeding the target by over 8% in 2020 places this component firmly in the red, contributing 0 points to the overall measure score. This is the second year in a row the death rate from falls has increased; however, as a population ages, increased deaths due to falls are not unexpected.
Percent of adults who smoke cigarettes.
14.43% of adults who smoke cigarettes.
The goal for the smoking rate is to remain below the target – exceeding the target would signify more smoking across the County. The percentage of people Arapahoe County who report smoking decreased slightly from 12.55% to 12.27% in 2020. By remaining below target, this component receives a green status, contributing 1 point to the overall measure score.
Teenagers who gave birth per 1,000 persons.
13.86 teens per 1,000 who gave birth
The goal for the teen birth rate is to remain below the target – exceeding the target would signify additional births to teen mothers. This component stayed below its target, receiving a green status and contributing 1 point to the overall measure score.
Percent of adults without insurance.
11.19% of adults without health insurance
The goal for the percentage of adults without health insurance to remain below the target – exceeding the target would signify more adults across the County without insurance. Unfortunately, this measure component received a red status after continuing to exceed its target for the third year in a row. The increase in 2020 may be related, in part, to changes in insurance status following pandemic-related job loss. This component contributed 0 points to the overall measure score.
Percentage of teens who vape per 1,000 persons.
24.20%
The goal for the percentage of adolescents who vape to remain below the target – exceeding the target would signify more teens using vape products across the County. Data for this measure come from the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey – which is only conducted every other year; therefore, the component remained the same from 2019 to 2020. However, a 24.20% adolescent vaping rate still exceeds the target of 22.32%. Because of this, the component receives a red status and contributes 0 points to the overall measure score.
